Can you imagine the exposure a piece on 60 Minutes could create for your business? Can you imagine how excited the world would be if you demonstrated a plan to take over the retail world by storm? Well, Jeff Bezos created and demonstrated just that on 60 Minutes this week with a concept he says is just four or five years away -- Amazon drones!!
So, what would you promote if 60 Minutes came knocking on your door?
Yes, I know, 60 Minutes is not likely to come knocking at your door, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have a plan for shaking up the business world with what you plan to do in the next few years.
Ever business person, female and male, should take time to consider a plan to create excitement in their industry. Here are just a few examples:
Last year, Kentucky Fried Chicken came out with the Double Down sandwich which contains "bacon, two different kinds of melted cheese, the Colonel’s secret sauce... pinched in between two pieces of Original Recipe chicken fillets - a sandwich with no bread -- get it ?
Walmart instituted their "Ad Match Guarantee" policy stating "we will match any local competitor's advertised price. We do not require customers to have the ad with them to honor a competitor's ad. Items purchased must be identical to the ad (size, quantity, brand, flavor, color, etc.). What could be better than guaraneeting the lowest price?
These are just two examples of what big companies are doing to create excitement about their products and stores. Every small business person can do the same just by thinking outside the box.
Every woman entrepreneur I know is looking for the opportunity to market her business and her brand somewhere where her potential clientele will see it and contact her ASAP. Why not 60 Minutes? Why not Oprah? Yes, I know The Oprah Winfrey Show is no longer available for promoting your wares, but O Magazine is alive and well and still available for a pitch too good to be true!
The question is, are you thinking creatively about how you market your business? Have you stretch your imagination beyond anything anyone else has ever suggested to you? As the Star Trek motto suggests, have you boldly gone where no man has gone before?
Well, there has never been a better time than right now to take your marketing and branding to a whole new level. There are plenty of marketing opportunities that don't cost anything but your time, energy and creativity. Start looking everywhere in your selling area to see what might make sense - perhaps, a sign or creative message in a friends' business window or mailing. Co-marketing is a proven strategy if you choose the right business to co-market with.
The point is let yourself go with ideas big and small to take advantage of the selling season to try new things that don't cost a lot of money but will get you a big splash. They are out there.
Just remember the lesson you learned just this past Sunday from the leader of retail sales, Jeff Bezos of Amazon. He took the opportunity to share an idea from 50,000 feet with 12.4 million viewers of 60 Minutes and you can bet his company Amazon hit a record for today's Cyber Monday.
Every marketer in America tips a hat to Jeff -- for his timing and chutzpah!
