Women Entrepreneurs Need To Trust Their Intuition

Posted by Vicki Donlan on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 @ 10:04 AM

My entire business career has been built on my acting on my gut instinct. Call it women's intuition, gut instinct, an inner voice, psychic ability or the universe's calling---whatever you call it it has worked for me.

women's intuitionSpeaking at a conference on Cape Cod yesterday, I was delighted to listen to a keynote by Lynn A. Robinson on Trusting Your Gut – How the Power of Intuition Can Grow Your Business. Lynn's presentation confirmed for me that intuition only works if:

(1) we take the time to identify why our gut is actually reacting in such a strong way, and

(2) we take action.

Women's intuition has been bantered about for generations. Is it myth or reality?

Absolutely reality! Women, for the most part, are more emotional and emphathetic than men. In situations they are more likely to take the temperature of the people around them which provides greater insight into what's happening. These feelings produce a gut reaction, an intuition, that women need to learn to trust.

Women entrepreneurs have an advantage to their male counterparts because of this innate skill -- but only if they are willing to believe and trust in what their gut is telling them and then act on it.

As a businesswomen, I can think of twice in my life when my gut told me one thing and I did another. Both times, I didn't trust my intuition because my brain told me others who were telling me something different were smarter than I was. LESSON LEARNED - when my gut tells me to do something in my business I need to listen to it and act accordingly. Others don't have my best interest at heart----my gut protects me if I take the time to believe and trust in it.

As Lynn Robinson shared yesterday -- "Intuition is a gift from the universe".
