Women In Business Anthem: Let It Go!

Why is it I write so often about women's progress in business? women's progress in entrepreneurship? women's progress in politics? Women's progress around the world? women's progress as equals? Why? Because just when I believe we are making progress as equals, I run face-first into male chauvinism at a level that shocks me back to reality---and, if at my age and level of experience, I am knocked over by it I am confident YOU witness it every day too! Elsa from Disney's Frozen

The answer, however, as to how to respond to behavior that should long be in the past is to "LET IT, GO LET IT GO!"

Yes, the true genius to the Disney feature film FROZEN is that Elsa just may represent what in today's society is known as a woman of power...a woman too often depicted in the media as someone to fear...aka Hillary Clinton; Angela Merkel; Sheryl Sandberg; Michelle Obama; Arianna Huffington; etc. Women who stand for something they believe in and won't back down regardless of the cost to their PR. The lyrics say "The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside. Couldn't keep it in. Heaven knows I tried."

Have you ever been there? The naysayers are telling you you did something wrong, or not to do something you believe in and yet you know you are right. Yes, the storm inside you sweeps you up in wanting to take action all the while your head tells you perhaps you should just back down...BUT, then you "can't hold it back any more. Let it go, let it go! Turn away and slam the door. I don't care what they're going to say.
Let the storm rage on.
The cold never bothered me anyway".

Women in business are the here and now and, I believe, the most powerrful force in our economy. We can't back down. We can't be "the good girl we always have to be". We must use our education, our networks, our experience, and most importantly, our hearts to work for a better world. If we don't "test the limits and break through" we will be letting down the next generation of both men and women who, know it or not, are depending on us.

So regardless of what you feel is standing in your way, take some good advice from Elsa in the Disney film FROZEN and "Let it go, let it go.
I am one with the wind and sky.
Let it go, let it go.
You'll never see me cry.
Here I'll stand, and here I'll stay.
Let the storm rage on......The cold never bothered me anyway."
