Woman Entrepreneur or Not? Snow Days May Tell The Story

Posted by Vicki Donlan on Tue, Feb 3, 2015 @ 07:02 AM

Mother Nature has just blasted the Northeast (in my case - Boston) with another foot of snow. As an energized entrepreneurial bunny, I am up earlier than usual and diving into work that I often don't have time to complete. I realized that it is days like these that can help women identify themselves as woman entrepreneur or not. Take the quiz ahead and see if maybe it is time to start your own business. snow business

First, let me be clear that no matter what this quiz may tell you about yourself only YOU can decide what you want to do with your life. The purpose of this quiz, and all the blogs I write about entrepreneurship, is to guide women in business in the direction of their dream. Sometimes that dream is to start a business and sometimes that dream is to find purpose in one's work. However, these two dreams are not always wanting and needing the same outcome. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone.

QuizSo, let's get started: Score one point for each checkmark.

(1) When you were a child did you ever:

    sell lemonade (  )

sell Girl Scout cookies (  )

babysit for those outside your family (  )

have an entrepreneur as a family member (  )

(2) As an adult you are:

    a self-starter (  )

a decision-maker: would rather make a decision and be wrong than do nothing (  )

a big picture person capable of seeing how all things relate to each other (  )

    called a control freak (  )

(3) When life throws you curve balls (or it snows for days and days), you:

bring out your most recent business plan and update it (  )

get on the phone, or the internet and reach out to vendors, customers, potential customers, and media to spread the excitement of what you and your company are up to next (  )

are ready with a plan to take advantage of the down time (  )

dive into your Quickbooks or bank statements and determine ways to streamline your expenses (  )

(4) Working with people means:

finding the qualities and talents in others that I lack (  )

allowing others to find their own best way of doing things (  )

delegating even the important stuff (  )

leading by example and communicating the big picture (  )

(5) My love of money means:

creating a budget and sticking to it (  )

understanding that money does not buy success (  )

knowing it takes at least one year of business to get into the black (  )

knowing when it is time to pull the plug on my business (  )

(6) I do not fear:

failure: if I don't fail sometimes I may not be trying hard enough (  )

speaking in public - my business message is always best coming from me (  )

    hard work (  )

a lack of balance in my life (  )

(7) I want to jump up out of bed every morning and be my own boss and make a difference in my own way in the world (  )

That's it - 25 questions that may answer the question for you - am I a woman entrepreneur or not!

If you have any fewer than 23 checkmarks, I suggest you think twice before quitting your day job and becoming an entrepreneur. I am willing to forgive you if you didn't have the opportunity of being a Girl Scout or have a family member who was an entrepreneur. However, it shouldn't surprise you that these are both characteristics of successful female entrepreneurs.

I hope you'll take the quiz and let me know how you make out. The world needs more women entrepreneurs leading the way in business and I promise I will be your number one fan!
