There are many differences between male and female entrepreneurs, but the contrast that is most distinctive is the need to ask a lot of questions.
Is it nurture or nature that causes women, entrepreneurial or not, to want to inquire about every detail of a situation, product or service? More importantly, why is it assumed that if she is asking a lot of questions she is any more confused than the man who claims to have all the answers?
As a serial entrepreneurial woman, I ask questions to learn about the pros and cons and to be able to make a calculated decision. Often I ask a lot of questions so that I am able to perform the task, if needed, the next time to avoid paying someone else again and again for the same simple service.
The idea that women are more confused or less intelligent than men because they ask a series of questions is absurd. We all know the importance of curiosity as we encourage it from our children. The best way to learn about anything is to open the mind and allow it to ponder every angle of something. Asking questions is the best way to learn how, why, when, where to do something as well as what to do. The idiocity is not with the person who asks a lot of questions, but with the person who does not.
Women entrepreneurs tend to have fewer mentors and role models as well as fewer advisors early in the business. It is in their best interest to make many inquiries about people, places and things in order to have the information to make the best decisions. It is only when women entrepreneurs gain the information and fear making the decision to move forward that they lack the confidence to be successful.
Vendors learn early on that their women clients will require more of their time due to the need of understanding what they are being sold. But savvy vendors get that once a woman entrepreneur has all of your questions answered she will be the best and most loyal client as well as one willing to refer others.
Decision making is the most important task of every entrepreneur and being able to decipher the options is how to move to the appropriate conclusion.
So Hear Ye Hear Ye All Women Entrepreneurs! - Stop apologizing for asking so many questions and taking your time to learn what you need to in order to feel comfortable. Asking questions is how we learn and what we learn gives us the power of knowledge.
