When school age boys and girls are asked who the smartest person in the world is they answer, unconditionally, "MOM".

This is true whether Mom works outside the home or not.

When asked why they believe Mom is the smartest person in the world, children answer, "because she always knows the answers". Yes, Moms know all the answers -- or at least pretend to know when it comes to answering the numerous questions of their children.

So, what happens to many women entrepreneurs when they start their businesses? Why do they suddenly go brain dead?

It is all about confidence! Every Mom I know is confident she has all the answers for her children because she loves them more than words can say. From the moment her children are born she instinctively knows what to do or knows where to turn to find the answers.

Starting a small business is like giving birth. We need to take time (not necessarily nine months) to plan for the launch (birth) with all the items needed for a smooth start. Once the business is up and running we must make decisions every moment of every day to keep it healthy and growing.

Before long we must be prepared to work with the outside world and its interactions with our company (baby). We must be the expert about what we do and what we can offer others. We need to stay confident we have the answers. This requires regular study on what it is we do -- whether it is mothering, architecture, interior design, real estate, insurance, marketing, social media, investments, retail, education, healthcare or more. To be an expert in a field, we must practice everyday and share our wisdom on the subject with everyone we meet.

Moms are the experts on everything for their children because they are there willing to answers questions with confidence and conviction. Every woman entrepreneur has all the answers she needs if she looks inside herself and remembers what her Mom taught her, "You know more about your business (baby) than anyone else and with confidence, patience, practice and study you are the expert."
