Women Entrepreneurs vs. A Balanced Life

Women entrepreneurs & balanceIf you are a woman entrepreneur you have heard the word balance at least once a day since you launched your business. Everyone you meet wants you to think about balance now that you have decided to be a woman in business. Books, seminars and events target businesswomen with the promise of informing them of ways they can maintain balance while still becoming successful in business.

Why is it that when you are at work you think about being at home and when you are at home you think about being at work?

In my work, I hear this question all the time from women in business. Our society has placed a tremendous burden on women's shoulders in asking them to choose one place or another to focus their attention.

The truth is that balance is not something that anyone can attain on any given day, or even perhaps in any given year. Balance, like life is ever changing. Hopefully your sick days will be out of balance with your well days, your rich years will be out of balance with your poor years and your lonely days out of balance with your accompanied days. In other words, a truly balanced life is something we can all attain if we focus on attaining it over a lifetime.

Women entrepreneurs, just as male entrepreneurs do, MUST focus their attention on their new businesses 100% of the time during the startup phase. This phase cannot be given a determined length of time as it will vary for different small business people. Most important at this time is being present in the moment. No more thinking of home while at work or work while at home. Being present in the moment is the only way to build a successful business. A lack of attention during the early phase too often seals the fate of an otherwise potentially successful company.

Women entrepreneurs must change their intention of a balanced life to a balanced lifetime. Take time to write the business plan of your life beginning with fun, education, family, business, fitness, financial, spiritual, community and retirement.

You'll be more successful in your business when you have a life plan and realize that balance comes by making choices and living in the moment.
