As we enter into the busiest time of year, personally and professionally, it's a good time to reflect back on some of life's greatest wisdom: things mother said.

Most of us spend our day on a treadmill running around as mother said, like a chicken with her head cut off. The funny thing about a treadmill is that no matter how fast or long you run you end up in the same place you started. So, perhaps mother was right when she said take time to smell the roses or when you get to be my age by the time you get to where you are going you won't remember why you went there in the first place.

Yes, mother always said life is too short not to be happy and certainly to short to worry about what other people think or say about you.

Stick and stones can break your bones but names will never hurt you.

Of course, if you have even one nasty word for anyone else, mother would say, if you can't say something nice about someone don't say anything at all. And before you even consider making a face, remember mother said, it might get stuck that way.

Mother's wisdom can be practiced by women entrepreneurs everyday. Mother knew best when she said don't take any wooden nichels or always have money in your purse in case you need to take a cab ride home. Mom prepared us early for business when she said always be able to support yourself and a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.

The most powerful advice mother shared was you will catch more flies with sugar than with vinegar and this wisdom helps women entrepreneurs succeed in sales.

Mother always knew the importance of being prepared. From starting the day with a good breakfast because the children in India were starving to making sure we always wear clean underwear because you never know when you might get hit by a bus.

Mother knew our lives as women would be busy whether working inside and/or outside the home. She always said the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and today I understand that better than I like to admit.

But as women entrepreneurs responsible for staff, customers, vendors, and families of our own, the best advice mother ever had was what she said most often whenever we asked her about anything.....

Q: Mom why can't I.......

A: Because I said so!
