Women Entrepreneurs Must Lead With A Moral Compass

I have been asked often if I believe women are more moral or honest than men --- my answer is, and has always been, women may be the majority, but we are still treated as second class citizens, and because of our upbringing (being trained to nuture), we are more likely to ascribe to the golden rule. Womken entrepreneurs golden rule

I spend my time consulting with women entrepreneurs to assist them in growing their business but NEVER, and I mean NEVER, have I discussed being successful by hurting, or even destroying some one else in the process. Being the best you can be and working harder to win the business from your competitor, is the game of entrepreneurship and business. When we read daily about companies who don't care about their customers and are willing to scam them out of their money at any cost, as the recent NY Times article by a former Goldman Sacks senior employee, women wonder, and I assume so do many men, HOW DO THESE GUYS SLEEP AT NIGHT!

I, like others, read these scenarios and know why women have not reached these positions in greater numbers. Women would not stand still for this despicable behavior. (at least I know that I would not.)

As long as men are the majority in positions of power their behavior is not being checked by 52% of the population (women). And, before you criticize me for believing that women would do better -- check out the Fosbury Flop and take the quiz. Then ask your friends to take the quiz.

Perhaps, if women did have all the power we would lose our moral compass and become more ruthless and less ethical. I would like to believe that wouldn't happen.

As a mother and a mentor, I pride myself on my reputation of being caring, honest and someone who walks my talk. Age teaches us all that the end does not justify the means. Our reputation will follow us beyond our lifetime. How do you want to be remembered?

Whether in your business life or your personal life, how you treat others has an impact on the world. Like a ripple in the water leads to a wave across the ocean, unethical, dishonest behavior affects a generation. Just take a look at the mess we are in in The U.S. today!

Women entrepreneurs must lead by example. The next generation of women, and men, are watching, and it is clearly up to women to teach values of decency, honesty and humanity.
