Procrastination Is The Killer for Women's Business

One of the most memorable quotes in cinematic history was spoken by Scarlet O'Hara in Gone With The Wind, when she said:

"I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow."

Why does this quote stick in my head? Because, as a business coach, I see too many of my clients that live by this thinking! procrastination

Procrastionation will kill your small business. If you put off for tomorrow what you CAN do today you will always be playing catch up. Every entrepreneur must understand the importance of preparation, staying ahead of the curve and proaction rather than reaction.

Successful business people are prepared for the s_ _ t to hit the fan. Because they stay current with their business strategy and plans when a curve ball does hit them they are not taken off balance. In other words, when you keep up you are unlikely to fall behind went something does not go as planned. A bump in the road may through you off balance, but it won't knock you down.

Summer is a time when procrastination hits a lot of entrepreneurs. Rather than take time off for a real vacation and relaxation, many small business owners decide to just scale back at the office/place of work. Unfortunately, this attitude, state of mind, disposition and/or manner leads to a longer than planned tendency to put things off until another time.

What you need and what your business needs are not the same! You may need a vacation from your business, but your business does not need a vacation or time to relax. Your business requires full attention 24/7. As owner, CEO, president, chief cook and bottle washer, it is your job -- your responsibility -- to take action on every issue that needs attending to as appropriately and efficiently as possible. You may not have a second chance to make the best decision if you put off making it indefinitely.

As Scarlet O'Hara accurately professed, tomorrow is another day, and as Little Orphan Annie sang, the sun will come up tomorrow. But remember: "Today is yours to shape. Create a masterpiece!”
